Change is possible
Do you feel fundamentally broken? Are you falling back into people pleasing or controlling behaviours, even though you really want to change them? Do you keep finding yourself in relationships with the same sorts of people or in the same type of dynamic?
About Therapy
Lasting change can be possible by being gently curious about what parts are bringing us back into our old patterns, and what beliefs or emotions those parts carry. With practice and insight, you can be aware which parts are driving your actions and compassionately make new choices.
Change can be hard and often we might be conflicted about the changes we want to make. Through a mix of gentle curiosity, parts work, experimentation and processing, we can better understand what might be behind some of the choices we make.

About the Therapist
Hi! My name is Richard. My approach to therapy is eclectic, which just means that I draw from a range of modalities and adapt to best fit you. I do find myself being most aligned to Gestalt therapy, largely due to it being a big part of my own recovery.
I work with people who are struggling with people pleasing or people controlling behaviours (they may identify as codependent), these same people have typically experienced chaotic families of origin. I have also worked with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, particularly people with chronic illness, people who trans or gender diverse, gay/queer, and people who are recovering from addiction.
I became a counsellor because I was inspired by the courage of the people I met in group therapy, and because the changes I experienced left me wanting to lead a life that reflected my values.

Service
Depth Enquiry
Depth Enquiry is a EMDR-like technique to help you process stuck memories and beliefs. I offer this technique because it’s a process that I have experienced and found to be effective.
Processing is much like opening up a storage container. Initially you might be overwhelmed by everything that is in it, and it seems like a monumental task. However, by going through the contents, you will learn what was in the storage shed and organise what you have found. In this case, the contents of the storage shed are your memories, behaviours, emotions and the meanings you have attached to them. Depth Enquiry will give you the space to sort through it by using your own intelligence, awareness and insight.
People who have gone through this process are often surprised by the connections their mind has made. Others who are working through pre-memory parts may struggle to find language for their experience, but are surprised to find that they no longer feel stuck.

Psychologists studied psychology (the science of the brain) in their undergraduate degree, and then chose to do their post-graduate degree in therapy.
Counsellors come from a wide variety of backgrounds but Registered Counsellors have done an undergraduate or post-graduate degree in counselling.
