About the Therapist
Richard is a transgender man who is also autistic and has ADHD. His therapeutic style is eclectic, mainly drawing on aspects of Narrative Therapy and Solutions Focused Therapy. He enjoys working with a wide range of people and takes a non-pathological approach to “mental health.” He has years of experience supporting the trans and gender diverse community. He has been a peer support worker, a disability support worker, a case worker, and a support coordinator.
Richard believes that one of the gifts of counselling is deeply compassionate self-awareness, self-knowledge and recognition of the skills and insights that we already have. He brings a non-pathologising approach to therapy and has experienced how important the therapeutic relationship can be for healing.
Richard has been involved in advising the Central and Eastern Sydney Public Health Network on developing the lived experience peer workforce and strategies to support people experiencing life interrupting mental health challenges.
Feeling stuck?
Depth Enquiry is a gentle process that is ideal for stuck negative self-beliefs and resolving trauma. Depth Enquiry uses some of the same building blocks of EMDR, but it described as being more holistic, more embodied, more relaxed and less clinical. Find out more here.
NDIS
Need an experienced support coordinator/psychosocial recovery coach or a NDIS counsellor? Richard offers these services through Sage Disability Support. In addition to providing neuro-affirming support, Richard enjoys working with people who experience chronic pain and other complex health alongside their funded disabilities. Email info@sagedisabilitysupport.com.au for more information.
What are your fees?
Our fees are $120 per 50 minute session.
Low Fee Spots
I have a limited number of low fee spots available. These are $70 for 50 minutes.
Please be sure to say that you are asking for a low fee spot. You will not be asked for “proof” of need.
Can I claim the Medicare rebate?
Unfortunately, counsellors are not covered by Medicare.
Do I need a referral to book in?
Not at all!
What’s the difference between counselling and psychology?
Psychologists studied psychology (the science of the brain) in their undergraduate degree, and then chose to do their post-graduate degree in therapy.
Counsellors come from a wide variety of backgrounds but Registered Counsellors have done an undergraduate or post-graduate degree in counselling.
One is not inherently better than the other.
When are you available for sessions?
I am available on Mondays from 1pm to 6pm, Fridays from 5pm and Saturday mornings.
What if I am in a crisis?
Even if you become a client, this is not a crisis service. If you are in a crisis please contact emergency services, Lifeline (13 11 14) or the Suicide Callback Service (1300 659 467).
